The QA / Safety Director for Bon Appétit Management Company is responsible for the foodservice, operational safety and is accountable for the safety behaviors in the account. The Director will adhere to the Client’s culture and guidelines, OSHA, and the Health Department’s regulations. The Director is responsible for overseeing the sanitation and safety of all kitchens and cafes. The Director: directs and conducts safety, sanitation, and maintenance programs; teaches a good work ethic; motivates, trains, develops and directs all staff to accomplish the goals and objectives of the operation to the satisfaction of the guests. Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Supervision of the QA / Safety Manager and other team members.
- Provide reliable, precise, and timely technical support of food service operations, aligned with department philosophy, with regard to all food safety and sanitation matters, conformance to corporate Quality Assurance programming, and regulatory compliance.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory officials proactively and reactively as necessary. Keep abreast of current and proposed regulations.
- Monitor third-party food safety audit of assigned business group units, and support the overall program as related to its reliability and value as an operations food safety performance metric.
- Respond to and investigate complaints of food borne illness, food-related injury, and product defects/contamination with the objective of determination of the root cause of substantiated allegations. Coordinate lab analyses and forensic examinations as deemed necessary. Ensure appropriateness of corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Report on findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Engage regional leadership in monthly food safety performance reviews, prompting actionable and impactful responses.
- Assist with the development and execution of HACCP plans specific to projects and special events.
- Monitor regulatory agency landscape for emerging concerns, consumer advisories, food safety alerts, proposed regulations, and similar public health and business-impact issues.
- Monitor industry landscape for food safety best practice.
- Prepare tracking, trending, exception, summary, and other reports associated with Quality Assurance programs and regulatory compliance, including monitoring and support activities.
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with department Supply Chain QA staff on routine matters, i.e. complaint investigations, recalls, and vendor and product conformance, and special projects.
- Work closely with department staff across Operations Compliance Support teams, as well as with other field support functional areas and departments.
- Develop and deliver presentations to internal stakeholders, including food safety compliance reviews, training sessions, workshops, focus groups, and other forums and audiences.
- Actively participate in and contribute to the overall value of team meetings.
- Other tasks and projects as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Associates degree in a science discipline or food service, required.
- Certified Serv Safe Professional, Serv Safe Certified Instructor within 6 months of employment, required
- HACCP certification or strong technical knowledge of retail food safety and HACCP resulting in HACCP certification within 6 months of employment, required.
- Certified Professional-Food Safety (CP-FS) credential a plus.
- Registered Sanitarian/Environmental Health Specialist (RS/REHS) credential a plus.
- Ideal candidate will have at least five years of combined regulatory experience and industry experience in a dedicated food safety support role.
- Two to three years of direct experience with regulatory requirements for food establishments.
