POSITION SUMMARY: |
The Assistant General Manager for Bon Appetit Management Company is responsible for the overall success of the daily culinary operations at this Higher Education client. This means adhering to the Client’s culture and guidelines, the Health Department’s regulations, and Bon Appétit’s standards and expectations of food quality, freshness and presentation. This position oversees the daily administrative and operational tasks including sanitation and safety. This position also directs employees to accomplish the objectives of the operation to the satisfaction of the customers, and maintains a working relationship with the Client.
POSITION OBJECTIVES: |

- Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
MAJOR DUTIES/FUNCTIONS/TASKS: |
Overall Supervision
- Meets all timelines for service and all other timelines given by management.
- Teaches and adheres to Bon Appétit’s philosophy, culture and commitment to quality food and exemplary service.
- Takes ownership of the operation, which serves 7,000-8,000 meals per day to students, staff, and guests.
- Follows all Bon Appétit’s requirements as outlined in the BA Management Handbook.
- Ensures that all locations meet the standards as set by the General Manager, as well as oversees the daily appearance and upkeep of the client sites.
- Adheres to Bon Appétit’s standards of fresh and creative décor, as specified by General Manager.
Supervision and Development of Staff
- Manage a team of approximately130 employees - union, hourly, and salaried staff.
- Supervises the daily conduct of the staff; coaches and disciplines according to standards set in BA Hourly Handbook.
- Supervises the adherence to proper uniform standards following the employee handbook and established account guidelines.
Customer Service
- Represents the company in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner in all customer, client and employee interactions.
- Interacts with customers and resolves customer complaints in a friendly and service oriented manner.
- Responds to customer feedback within 24 hours, including feedback given via email or public forums.
Budget Management
- Adjust weekly forecasted orders to ensure all pertinent product is ordered efficiently.
- Meets weekly neighborhood spend targets; requests appropriate permission when overages are needed for large special events, Client requests, etc.
SECONDARY DUTIES: |
Special Events
- Assists with special events as needed with staff, culinary and management presence
- Management experience in Hospitality, Retail Food Operations, contract food services is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS: |

Experience:
- 5-10+ years supervisory experience in a like volume and quality customer service establishment
- Has a minimum of 5 years applicable experience in a like volume and quality customer service establishment
- Possess general hospitality knowledge and interest in sustainability and sustainable food practices
- Proficient with word processing and spread sheet applications.
- Possess the ability to meet Bon Appétit unit specific uniform standards for this position.
